JIT (Just - In - Time) delivery was developed by the automotive industry to reduce the amount of inventory an auto assembly plant must maintain. In a JIT environment, the supplier synchronizes his production with the demands of the customer, so that the parts arrive just at the right time to be consumed by the customer. This allows many assembly plants to operate with little or no materials inventory on-hand. With JIT tube bending, Stam synchronizes production to the demands of customers through various types of electronic data interchange. Regardless of the exact method used, the aim is always to reduce inventory, schedule production efficiently, and eliminate paperwork. Stam was providing JIT Tube Bending in 1973 to White Motor – long before it was widely employed.
